The Devil Is On Your Bookplate

HORNS will be out in trade paperback next month, and to promote it, we’ve cooked up a deal with the devil (hur hur hur). I’m going to sign and doodle a 1,000 bookplates, and while supplies last, you can get yourself one. All you have to do is preorder a copy of the book, and send your proof of purchase to joehill@harpercollins.com with HORNS BOOKPLATE in the subject line. You must also include your MAILING ADDRESS in the email. Only one per household. Satanically easy, right?

What qualifies as proof of purchase? A scan or photo of a receipt works. Or, if you order from an online retailer, just forward your receipt from them. If you have safety concerns, feel free to delete any personal info from your receipt (although neither Amazon or Barnes & Noble include your credit card info in their receipts, so there’s not a lot to worry about there – they do include mailing addresses, but of course you have to provide that anyway). Hell, we’d probably accept a photo of you standing next to a bookseller, the dude holding your money, and grinning. That’s all there is to it.

Thanks guys and I hope you have fun with muh book.

(Update, 1hr later: Note that for the time being, the bookplate offer only applies to US preorders of the HarperCollins Trade Paperback of HORNS. But if I can arrange a similar deal for the Gollancz/Orion paperback, I will.)

    Hi Joe,
Does this only apply to the U.S.? As the trade paperback has already been released in the U.K.
I would dearly like a Horns bookplate, what about us Brits!

  2. Joe Hill says:

For the moment, the promotion only applies to the US. Will see about the possibility of doing the same for Gollancz/Orion.

  3. Daniel says:

Think about us far south, I want a Horns bookplate here in Brazil too…

  4. Kyle says:

What if I take a picture of every issue of Locke & Key, the Cape, Kodiak, the head key from Skelton Crew Studio, the Hardcover copy of Horns, and the receipt of the copy of Heart Shaped Box I sent as a All Hallow’s Read gift? Would that count?

  5. Charlene says:

I’m in the UK, but what if I order from the US Amazon?

  6. Rachel says:

Exciting! I’ve been waiting for this in paper back! Hot dog! Just placed my order. :)

  7. JD says:

Quite exciting; I concur with Rachel above me. I placed my order and sent e-mail of my proof. Very cool self-promotions Joe :)

  8. JD says:

Joe, I almost forgot to ask … Will you do any signings in Syracuse New York? Maybe Oneida? We have the Turning Stone casino in Vernon :) There’s some comic stores in Syracuse, and Oneida has Mind Games. Central New York loves your work too!

  9. Totally ordered the paperback having already bought the hardcover just because of this offer…and my wife says I have no impulse control. PSHAW.

  10. dparkernc says:

Fingers crossed that it works out for Gollancz/Orion version!

Cant really complain just received my three Locke & Key HC’s from New Dimension comics with your’s, Gab’s and Chris signatures massive thanks for that!!

  12. Paul says:

I am in the UK also, and while i love my signed hard back of horns i would certainly get the paperback with a bookplate? I hope some make it over here! Please keep us updated!

I interrupt this blog-cast to shine a 1980′s tune to Joe and all lovers of 80′s fine-cheesy music.

Hope all had a happy Valentines day and got a nice HSB !

  17. Samalam says:

You are awsome to your fans!

But I have a question! Will we recieve an email back as a confirmation?

  18. Jacopo says:

I don’t know if it’s the right place to ask. I am an Italian fan and I have been following your work, both in comicbook form and book (loving Locke & Key and excited for the possibility of a tv show, Heart-shaped box creeped me out a lot and 20th century Ghosts was one of the best collections of short stories I have ever read).
I wanted to know if Horns will be ever published in Italy. Do you know anything about it?
Thanks a lot for your answer.

  19. Danielle says:

    ordered mine last night, huzzah!

  21. Jennifer says:

contemplating ordering the paperback, even though I switched to Kindle last year to save trees (and space)… Would it be odd to put the bookplate on my kindle???

  22. Joe Hill says:

    Jen,

Especially if you get a bunch of bookplates by a bunch of authors, and slap ‘em on so they overlap a little, like bumper stickers on a steamer trunk, advertising all the (literary) countries you’ve visited.

  23. luiz henrique says:

    Mr. Hill

We want your bookplate in Brazil too! Please! I already have HORNS in Portuguese but would be happy to buy an english copy to get the bookplate. Pretty please?

  24. Tina Ayers says:

I too bought the kindle version but would still love a bookplate-I could frame it? :) Does that count?

  25. Bruno Wolff says:

Olá Hill! Terminei de ler ‘Horns” O PACTO hoje. Li em três dias. Passei o Diabo com esse ‘book’ viu?” Hehe, sofri com Ig Perrish. Que história! Que narrativa! Adorei os outros livros também A ESTRADA DA NOITE e FANTASMAS DO SÉCULO XX. Me tornei seu fã! Vou aguardar por mais histórias suas! POR FAVOR, NÃO DEMORE PRA LANÇAR OUTRO LIVRO!

    E haaaa, sou Brasileiro!
    Tudo de bom!

Just ordered the paperback copy from amazon and forwarded you my receipt. Looking forward to getting my book and bookplate. This will be my second Joe Hill autograph. I already have a signed 1st edition of Heart Shaped Box.

Also proud to say I got all of the other members of your family as well (except for your sister). Stephen King (8 of his), Owen King, Tabitha King and then Joe Hill aka Joe King.

  31. Jim Haynes says:

I saw your Dad in the Galleria in Cleveland during the 95 baseball season. I presume he was here to see the Sox play the Tribe. I should have asked for his autograph but he was pretending to shop and trying to be invisable. I doubt that he could get away with it today without being swamped. Enjoy freedom while you can and try to remember that family and friends should always come first.

  33. I seldom leave remarks, however i did some searching and wound up here The Devil Is On Your Bookplate | Joe Hill Fiction. And I actually do have 2 questions for you if it’s allright. Could it be only me or does it look like a few of these responses appear as if they are left by brain dead individuals? :-P And, if you are writing at additional social sites, I’d like to keep up with everything new you have to post. Would you make a list of the complete urls of your shared pages like your Facebook page, twitter feed, or linkedin profile?
