The Cape is over – final issue out today.
Big thanks to Jason Ciaramella, who scripted this thing from start to finish, and Zach Howard, who made The Cape one of the best looking comics of the last few years, and Nelson Daniel, who provided some of the most creative and inspired colors you’ll find anywhere. You guys rule; I count myself lucky to have had anything to do with this mag.

Over?
I thought it was going to be an ongoing series to fill the hole that will exist when L&K ends.
The Cape is a cracking read, and beautifully drawn. You guys should be proud of this. Joe’s original story was a brilliant riff on the superhero-antihero mythos, but the comic is something else entirely: true to the 20CG version while taking on a life of its own. Loved 1-3 and am getting the final chapter … hell, I’m ordering it right now. Thanks, guys.
can not wait….i like the part where my ex wife dies …errr uh i mean his girlfriend
Best Superhero comic of all time: The Cape (first issue, adapted from Joe’s short story)
Best Superhero movie ever: Chronicle (inspired by a great novel—Carrie)
Find it hard to argue with either choice, Tinker. Personally, I find superhero stories are so much better when the heroes in question are somewhere short of ‘super’.
BK
Yeah, Max Landis (screenwriter of “Chronicle”) seems to understand story and how to build sympathy for his characters. Can’t wait to see more of his work.
Oh, and, I added a new storyline to the previous post. Lemme know what you think. I’m having a lot of fun with Joe’s photo game.
It goes beyond the short story, you say? I loved that story, but now I’ll be on the lookout for this…
Tinker,
Ha! Loved your take on our elephant friend’s back story. Illicit zebra mailman love and the King of Rock ‘n Roll – now that’s fertile ground for one hell of a story right there…
Absolutely agree, re: Landis. Chronicle was so refreshing. No saccharine moral or the-bad-guy-finds-a-heart crap. Andrew wasn’t portrayed as good, or bad. He was just a messed-up kid who was having enough trouble dealing with things BEFORE he inherited powers beyond his comprehension. Even as I recoiled at Andrew’s descent, and could never condone his eruption into violence … Jesus it was hard not to feel for the kid. He wasn’t rampaging because he wanted to inflict pain; he was rampaging because even the most placid dog will turn Cujo if it wears enough hurt and mistreatment.
Sorry to ramble – just really struck a chord with me. Really, really good film.
Hello Joe, I am wondering if you would be willing to donate some signed and limited edition stuff to our relay for life team (cancer fundraising) ?. I look forward to your reply. PS: I am a big fan of yours. I have al your books and comic series. Thanks, Steve.
Possibly the most horrifying story in the collection.
Really enjoyed the series.
Great story with a fitting conclusion. Well done.
Satisfying conclusion to the story, though, one thing puzzled me. What’s with Nicky (Streak) wearing a mask in the second to last page of the flashback? In the short story, Eric swiped the mask from his brother and goes up the dead elm to escape.
Unrelated to “The Cape,” but for those of you who are L&K diehards, here’s something…
Collider recently interviewed the hauntingly beautiful Ksenia Solo about her role as Dodge in the L&K pilot, if she saw a future for it down the road, etc. She was heartbroken, of course, but one thing she said was it could still be an amazing feature film.
I think if Joe can buy back the rights, it’s very possible that the entire cast from the pilot could be reassembled for a movie. Here’s hoping, right?
So arrived home today to find The Cape #4 waiting for me. Who said Mondays couldn’t rock? Joe, Jason, Zach and Nelson … thanks, guys, and well played. Brilliant series and killer denouement. My one quibble is that the last issue contained far too few Emperor penguins for my liking, but hey, it’s my responsibility to accept that creative works can still be perfectly good without them.
