Kelly Link in Portsmouth

Nearly everyone who writes modern fantasy and horror wishes they could write stories like Kelly Link writes stories. She’ll be at the Public Library in Portsmouth, NH, in the Levinson Room on Wednesday the 7th. RiverRun Books will be co-hosting the event. If you’re in the area, and you haven’t read her, here’s your chance to discover one of the most exciting voices in American fiction (genre or mainstream). If you have read her, then you already know it’ll be worth making the trip to see her.

At 6 PM she’ll be answering questions for the RiverRun “book club” – no formal membership required, however, you can just come right in. And at 7 she’ll read from Pretty Monsters, which collects some old stories with some new ones.

It’ll be fun, you should go.

Happy New Year everyone.

UPDATE: EVENT CANCELLED. Bad weather.

Hi Joe! Thanks for the head’s up on a new writer. I don’t live close enough to attend, but will watch for her books to hit the local library.
Hope you are getting dug out of the latest snow storm and that the holidays were wonderful for you and the family.
PS–I’ve pre-ordered the next installment of Locke and Key and can’t wait to see where the story takes me.
    Happy New Year, everyone!
    Peggy

Sorry I don’t live near there. She sounds talented. Happy New Year Joe. I’m finishing the writing of my 2nd novel. I dedicated it to a guy from NIN. LOL…I’m insane. Hope you are well.

    Hi Joe,

I’m always in the market for writer’s that write differently than myself; therefore I have order her 3 books. One will take 3 weeks to arrive but the other two are in stock.

I read a bit from Amazon and downloaded one. I liked what little I read. Thanks for the heads up!

You know, I checked out her website when I heard about her from L&K (the name of the boat). She had a short story on there that I really enjoyed reading…she is quite good. I will definitely be reading more of her stuff. I don’t suppose we could order an autographed copy of her new book, eh?

  5. Michele Says:

You can certainly order an autographed copy…just e-mail us at RiverRun: info at riverrunbookstore.com

Thanks for letting people know about the event, Joe! Kelly is a favorite writer of ours. I know the reading and book discussion will be a lot of fun!

Loves her! The story in “Magic for Beginners” with the cats and the witch freaks me out. I hope she comes out west. Is there some super cool cartel or consortium of writers that all gets together at Avenue Victor Hugo Bookshop and plans the fate of the world during posh parties or something (that’s what I like to imagine)? Because you guys are all on each others web pages. Writers are so my rockstars.

  7. Betsy Boo Says:

Me too, Rose! And thanks for the info Michele!

Digging into this one myself. Just finished the story “The Wizards of Perfil”. Brilliant piece of fiction. I highly recommend her to everyone on this site. Not only can she tell a good story, but the way she writes is new and fresh, and quirky (but in a good way, lol). Unfortunately I’ve never had an opportunity to see her. Portsmouth NH is a little out of the way for me, and I think I missed her when she came to Massachusetts last year, but if she ever comes back down to this neck of the woods I’ll try to run out and see her.

Oh and one more thing. When I went to see you (Joe) in South Hadley, Kelly Link was also there, and that’s when you introduced the group to her and her writing. I’ve been hooked ever since.

BTW, I’ve been trying to figure this out after looking at a picture of that event. Do you know if Holly Black was also there in the audience?

I am now in negotiations with RiverRun Bookstore to get a signed copy of PRETTY MONSTERS. If you want one, contact them at the above address (Michele) and they’ll get back to you. I LOVE Book People! They are the nicest folks in the world!

Thank you RiverRun and Kelly Link!!!

check out her work, I mean.

  13. Steve Says:

Just got the OK from the War Dept. to attend. Will be late but looking forward to the reading

  14. Nerak Says:

wonder if the storm will hold off enough for this to happen?

  15. Betsy Boo Says:

I was wondering the same thing. I’ve been in contact with RRB about getting some signed copies and they said there is an outside chance the event could be postponed. I wish you guys could send the snow our way instead! Everyone I’ve talked to around here wants it to snow.

  16. Steve Says:

Betsy Boo I have had enough snow and ice this year here already. Spring can’t come soon enough. I will call RBR they are local to me and post back here

  17. Steve Says:

Book Reading and Signing with Kelly Link – POSTPONED UNTIL MARCH 11 got it from the Portsmoutn library Web Site

  18. Michele Says:

  19. Betsy Boo Says:

I’m really sorry about the weather guys. Honestly I’d take it off your hands if I could. But I’m definitely going to call RRB and order some of those signed copies in March. Hey Michele…try to come back and remind us (although I’ve got it on my calendar so I won’t forget).
