Some Kind of Record

Thursday, January 31st, 2008

… it’s rare for me to post more than once a week, so three times in a single day must be some kind of record. Wanted to mention, though, that COMICS has been added to the FICTION drop-down menu. Or, if you’re too lazy to wave your mouse in the direction of the navigation bar up top, you can also just click here to see the comix page.

A couple months back I did an interview with Maggie Linton for XM Radio’s Sonic Theater on the subject of 20th Century Ghosts. I seem to remember mumbling a lot, and generally being at a loss for a single interesting to say on the subject of my own stories… a sadly typical state for me. For those with an interest, though, and access to satellite radio, XM will be reairing the interview this Friday, on channel 163, at 7 AM, 3 PM, and 11 PM.

Jagger is a better lyricist than Dylan. Just realized it this morning.

Yes, I know, there’s a wise, reasonable argument to be made otherwise. The only problem with that argument is that it’s wrong.

Updates

Sunday, January 27th, 2008

Sorry, haven’t had a lot of time for the blog this month. At some point I’ll try and get back to more regular posting. In the meanwhile, a few brief updates.

Terrence Rafferty examines 20th Century Ghosts at length in today’s New York Times Book Review, and has some tremendously wonderful things to say about it, and about “Best New Horror” in particular. You can read his review here.

The first issue of Locke & Key ought to be making its way to comic book stores in just under a month. For those who would like to check it out, and who don’t happen to have a comic store in close striking distance, IDW is taking subscriptions.

Locke & Key is my first ongoing series, but not my first foray into comics. Several years ago, I wrote two scripts for Cemetery Dance’s indie horror comic, Grave Tales. My pal Seth Fisher offered to illustrate one of them, “Freddy Wertham Goes to Hell” and was working on it at the time of his death in Japan. Seth’s closest friend, Langdon Foss, a gifted artist in his own right, completed his artwork.

Grave Tales, however, was entering a bumpy transitional period then, and went on hiatus for almost two years. I’m glad to see, however, that they’re ready to begin shipping issues again. “Freddy” appears in issue 6. And in issue 7, I have another story, “Rustle,” which I adapted from a nasty, jolting short by Peter Crowther, and which is illustrated by Jake Allen (Brownsville).

Judas Coyne – Cast!

There’s been some discussion, over on the message board, about what Judas Coyne looks like, and who would play him if they made a film out of the book. But I’ve already cast the part – in Rock Band. There he is, in all his hairy, hillbilly glory. Just thought everyone would want a look.

Rock on.

Back in Business Again

Tuesday, January 15th, 2008

Or close to it.

Give us a couple days to rebuild. We’ll need at least that long to make sure all the links work, and to restore the missing images.

Unfortunately, it doesn’t look like we’ll be able to restore the missing comments, which is a stinker. Comments are what make a blog a conversation instead of a monologue, and I just kind of think a conversation is a lot more interesting.

So get commenting again.
