Message in a Bottle
So about a month ago I made a decision – one that I suspect will be unpopular, but which I hope will be received with a measure of understanding ‘round these parts. Don’t hate me too much guys… but next week I’ll be shutting off the lights and bolting the doors on the good ol’ message board.
I’ll get into my reasons (some of my reasons), but before I do, let me say that this isn’t a reflection on the folks who visit the board. Quite the opposite – if not for the fun, pleasant, sweet, and supportive community that frequents the MB, I probably would’ve shut it down last fall. It’s been a digital hangout for some great people (Betsyboo, Mark and Mary, Patrick, Barry Wood, this_girl, New England Gothic, just to name a small few). You guys are the best. I’m flattered as all get out that you had some fun with the board; it’s been a pleasure dropping in to eavesdrop on your conversations over the last couple years.
So what is my thinking? More after the jump.
One challenge of the modern writing game is trying to figure out how to use the tools of the internet, both to support your fiction, and also (if you’re lucky) to have some fun and maybe do something creative. And there’s only so much time. If I rarely update the blog, that’s largely a matter of brute arithmetic. I spend 6 hours a day writing new fiction, and 6 more with my family. That’s a schedule that doesn’t leave me with a lot of time to look after the online real estate. Although it was only officially deleted a month ago, I actually shitcanned the MySpace page back in 2009 and I’ve never been much interested in joining FaceBook. I was thinking about jumping in on GoodReads, then remembered I haven’t logged into LibraryThing in almost a year. The switchboard of my brain can, apparently, only have so many things plugged into it at once. Maybe you know the feeling. The social networking stuff is great right up until the moment it begins to vampire away the juice from the rest of your life.
It doesn’t, at a glance, look like I contribute much to the message board. That’s partly by design; I decided a long time ago to keep my overbearing ass out of that space, so as to avoid becoming the bore at the dinner party barging into everyone’s conversations. Shane and I, however, both spend a fair amount of time observing, pruning, managing, and sorting out tech problems. Unfortunately, neither of us much have the time for it anymore, and I’d rather not have the board continue unsupervised. I feel responsible for it, in a sense, and I’m unwilling to just orphan it. I’m either going to manage it myself and be involved (even if my involvement is invisible), or I’ve got to close it down. (Now here’s the part where someone kindly volunteers to manage the MB for me. Thank you, and I appreciate your offer, but I have to pass.)
Also: Twitter. I love me Twitter. It’s fun – that simple. It also offers a lot of the best aspects of a message board – community, conversation, connection, and many other ‘c’ words – while eliminating some of the less fun elements. Someone acting like a troll? Just block ‘em. Want more variety then you can get on a board egotistically fixated on the work of one minor horror writer? Follow other people: your family, your friends, other writers and entertainers. Message boards can be fun places, but by their nature are tilted towards a small number of subjects. Twitter, by contrast, is a loud, energetic party, full of great talk, on a variety of topics; drop in and drop out as you please. Joe Bob says come on in, the water is great.
But hey, you don’t have to agree with me! And you also don’t have to say goodbye to the crew who formed up around the joehillfiction message board. There are several other fine forums where you can continue the conversations you started there. Locke & Key lovers will find lots of space to chat on the IDW message board; readers of the books will find welcoming homes at goodreads and LibraryThing. Remember, too, that almost every post on this blog has a comments thread, where wide-roaming conversations are the norm (koffkoff – yes, I am looking at you, Vicki). And for now, anyway, the blog and website are continuing concerns, along with the twitterfeed.
Thanks for your understanding, guys. Hope there’s no hard feelings on this one.

As long as this means that you will be able to spend more time writing stuff like “Pop Art” and “The Cape”, I guess I can handle it. I rarely posted anything, but I checked the site almost daily. I enjoyed it while it was here. Good luck and hurry up and publish some more. Like a follow up to “Gunpowder”. That story was badass.
May 24th, 2010 at 4:30 pm
I think, website-wise, you’re much more involved than the majority of authors. I don’t know how there’s enough time in the day for you as it is.
May 24th, 2010 at 6:55 pm
Joe you just do what ever you need to do to write. The stories you give us are more important than a message board or blog or tweet or whatever. It’s your writing that brings everyone here.
May 24th, 2010 at 7:51 pm
I only used the MB once, b/c I kept having too many technical difficulties getting on or staying on. I can place an endotracheal tube after visualizing vocal chords w/ a Macintosh blade WAY better than I can understand computer terminology.
John Cusack has a Facebook page, but I found it by accident. It said to name your favorite movies and I put ‘anything w/ John Cusack or Bronson Pinchot in it.’ Well John Cusack’s name yielded a link to his page which is called, unsurprisingly, John Cusack.
He has a MySpace channel too, where there’s a totally adorable picture of him (IDK why he acts so modest about his looks), but I like Facebook the best. Mostly b/c I’m not limited to 142 characters when I talk, but I’ve never had a MySpace page. The reason is too long to explain and is directly related to my work as a paramedic. That’s all I’ll feel needs to be said about it.
I still have no idea if, after I respond to tweets-either by placing a star on them or replying in words-the person actually sees them.
There are only two people following me. One is a friend, and I think he felt sorry for me not having ANYBODY follow me, and I have no clue how the other follower found me. But she keeps trying to sell me things.
May 24th, 2010 at 9:16 pm
Hey Joe Bob! It sounds like you’re really sweating this one, but don’t, ok? No need to apologize for needing more time in your day. I love the MB—I have had a lot of fun hanging out there— but I love your books more and if shutting it down gives you more time to write I’ll be a happy camper. I’m really going to try to figure out Twitter so I don’t miss out on any Joe-isms. You’re the best!
May 24th, 2010 at 9:18 pm
P.S. Ditto to what MR said about “Gunpowder”! Totally “badass”!
May 24th, 2010 at 9:23 pm
Made alot of friends here. Find me on twitter:
twitter nick: demorgan_kram
May 24th, 2010 at 9:39 pm
had to update my user name here….lol.
May 25th, 2010 at 12:21 am
I’m with Lenny, Joe – a man can only do so much, especially when time with his family is always too short and goes so fast, and if casting the message board adrift means more of your wonderful stories … that’s something I can definitely get behind.
May 25th, 2010 at 1:04 am
My Mother once told me you are so generous with your friends son but maybe you should be more generous with yourself. I think it’s a smart move and you should take time to have fun for you and yours. I would like to say this website is a great pleasure for me and enjoy coming to it just to read the threads. I don’t know if anybody has noticed, but Mike Blattly has not posted in quite a while. I miss him. Arno Hurter has only posted once and well…
May 25th, 2010 at 6:55 am
I’m gonna cry
damn pregnancy hormones…..
May 25th, 2010 at 6:56 am
Sorry to see it go. Great place to keep up on what’s going on….but oh well, all good things come to an end.
May 25th, 2010 at 7:21 am
As the message said in the final (brilliant) episode of Lost:
“Time to let go…”
There are always places where people can hang, just the location that changes. Never going to be a problem. It’s very easy to get wrapped up in the social networking thing, and it takes away from what you actually sat down at the laptop to do. I’m trying to become a published writer, and if I spent more time writing and less time blogging/tweeting/FBing etc. it might have happened by now. You’re doing what you dreamed about, Joe, don’t let anything get in the way now you are.
Horns, by the way, was a masterpiece. If closing down the board means you write anything that good again, then that’s how it has to be.

May 25th, 2010 at 7:45 am
HATE to see it end! BUT on the other hand, if yuo write more-so be it-great for all of us!
Keep up the great work!!
May 25th, 2010 at 8:27 am
PS…At the moment, the only other place I hang out is GoodReads. If any of my MB friends want to get in touch look for me (Betsy Boo) there. Wow…I’m gonna miss you guys!
May 25th, 2010 at 8:36 am
I will miss the boards too…even though I was just a reader of them. Can’t wait to see the next book Joe! Hope to meet and see many of you over at the GoodReads site
May 25th, 2010 at 9:00 am
A man’s got to know his limitations. Making hard decisions is what grown ups do. That’s Dirty Harry and my dad, in order. Had fun and it was a great distraction, but agreed that the books are what’s important. Jeez, Lost and Joe at the same time… Letting go, letting go
May 25th, 2010 at 9:15 am
Hey Well, all good things must come to an end, right?
Thanks a bunch, Joe & Shane (and anyone else who may have been behind the scenes), I’ve had a great time reading around here and getting to know some of the people.
I had made a personal decision a while back to limit my time online. I work all day and when I am home, though I love relaxing in front on the computer, I need to apply my time and energy with my girls and my husband.
I will miss a lot of you — Maybe will catch you elsewhere.
All the best to EVERYONE.
I will be looking forwarding to more Locke & Key and anything else that come’s our way.
Lastly, just Thank You.
May 25th, 2010 at 9:23 am
Hi everyone!
Has been a pleasure to share thoughts and info in the Message Board.
As Joe said, room for L&K stuff in the IDW forum, and Joe will be everywhere else in the net for us, so we’ll have a lot of chances to keep meeting in the virtual Universe…
Thanks, Joe & Shane!
Best,
G-
May 25th, 2010 at 11:49 am

overstayed it a bit.
it was nice to meet everyone.
i’m on twitter under the name cocainewolf (don’t ask) but i have very little to say on there.
facebook i’m brian o’blivion.
i never use my real name.
May 25th, 2010 at 2:11 pm
sad to hear it
was great to chat a little bit
so, goodbye everyone:-(
May 25th, 2010 at 2:25 pm
Time to say goodbye to all the great people have chatted with over the past 2 years, and thanks for all the updates and all Joe concerning your books!
Will you still be posting messages on the main page concerning your new books and signings? As I know that there’s a hard covered version of L&K Crown of Shadows coming out soon, and you usually do a book signing in is it RiverRock (not 100% sure on that store name) store and I have ordered the previous two releases from them so I can get a genuine signed book from your goodself!
May 25th, 2010 at 3:02 pm
Stay gold, Ponyboy.
May 25th, 2010 at 3:33 pm
Gking–that was perfect.
May 25th, 2010 at 4:16 pm
By the way, congrats, Mark! I saw your good news & your name update is perfect.
May 25th, 2010 at 4:48 pm
I’ve been thinking about this all day – I’ve done some reaching out to all of the people on here I’ve become “friends” with over the years. What I’ve failed to do is let Joe know how much I appreciate his writing, and the games we’ve played on here, and just his influence in my life all together. I’ll be a lifetime fan, and if cutting out the message boards makes it easier on you then so be it!
Shane – I hope getting rid of the boards means you’re SOO busy doing bigger and better things! Best of luck to you!
Now Joe – get to that writing and give us something new!!
May 25th, 2010 at 4:48 pm
Is there a D-day that everything will be done and gone?
May 25th, 2010 at 7:39 pm
sari-thank you. Im sure that I will be sneaking periodic updates on here with the rest of my comments..
May 25th, 2010 at 8:44 pm
Melissa,
End of the month. But nothing will be gone – the board will probably see some general clean-up, but for the time it will only be locked, meaning you can read what’s there, but can’t post new messages.
May 25th, 2010 at 9:14 pm
Dear Mr Hill. I just wanted to thank you for a tremendous read of “Heart Shaped Box”. It was my first time reading a novel by yourself and I could NOT put the book down in the 9 (or so) hours that it had taken me to read from front to back.
Congratulations on your amazing imagination and I truely look forward to reading more books from you.
Thank you and I wish you much happiness and wealth from your “gift” of writing.
Sincerely,
Vallie R

Joe,
Been a real pleasure taking to you, and the site members!
To-Do lists?! My own to do list had turned into my Bucket list..
Last month, April 19th of all, my daughter smashed her car to bits,
<> She and her 2 passengers are fine but when I had
the sar towed home, I was shocked by the sight so badly that as
I tuned to go inside, my foot tripped and I smacked my forehead and a bit of nose straight into the wall. Now I am at a loss for my left peripheral vision in both eyes..for now. Takes long to read but at least I still can after 2 of the scariest weeks EVER!! ( and there I was, afraid of landing on my left hand).
Your sure to accomplish much more whichever ways you choose,
Yes, I do believe you will !!!! ROCK ON JOE !!!
May 25th, 2010 at 9:39 pm
What will happen to the person on the MB who has a film on the bottom of his messages with a woman being scratched to death by a pack of puppet cats? That person should at least get an honorable mention. This place is fun and imaginative and can be modified without damage. These posts are great.
May 25th, 2010 at 10:40 pm
I understand, Joe. I’ve been a fan of yours for almost five years and I like you as a person as much as your writing. I’ve made friends here and I am also hooked on Twitter. If anyone here wants to keep in touch with me: http://twitter.com/barrywood
Betsy Boo, and others: you’re the best and kindest people one should have ocassion to meet.
So thanks for everything you’ve done for us, and for me, Joe, and I do appreciate your kindness over the years. I’ve also practically left MySpace as well it’s just isn’t fun any more.
Thanks for mentioning my name above Joe. With over 25,000+ followers on Twitter, it’s a perfect place for you.
And no matter how famous you become or how busy you get writing, your own family is what really matters.
God bless you and your wife and family. You are a nice man. The word nice seems lame, but why fancy it up with another other word?
May 25th, 2010 at 10:51 pm
Why not dedicate your next book to: Betsyboo, Mark and Mary, Patrick, this_girl, and New England Gothic. I’d like that for memories.
May 25th, 2010 at 11:27 pm
Wait!! Hold the ropes one second!! The tone here sounds more like a funeral for the whole whopping kit and kaboodle than shaving off one dead arm. Now unless I’m missing something.
The blog lives. Does it not? Really, that’s the important thing, right?
Save the tears, my friends, for when Joe Hill says: “I’ll be retiring…”
May 26th, 2010 at 1:27 am
Having a natural tendency toward being selfish-it’s a minor flaw of miner-I don’t think you should single out particular fans and dedicate a book to them. Unless, of course, it’s me (hehe) On a serious note, I don’t think it’s a good idea unless the people in question have done something super extra fantastic, which is more worthy than the rest of us. That’s just my opinion.
I like what J.K. Rowling did in the 7th Year Harry Potter book. She dedicated it to all the fans who stuck w/ Harry to the end.
May 26th, 2010 at 4:18 am
See you all in another life…………or message board!
May 26th, 2010 at 8:08 am
Soooo….. do we at least get a consolation chalk-off?? Nothing takes the sting out of disappointment like the chance to win awesome prizes!!!
May 26th, 2010 at 8:13 am
Bye, Joe. Catch you on Twitter.
May 26th, 2010 at 8:13 am
Janice,
A chalk-off is a strong possibility.
Also, again, the message board is going to shut down, but the blog is not.
May 26th, 2010 at 8:24 am
Thanks for the clarification, Joe. I thought both were shutting down. I’m very happy this blog will be kept.
A big happy smile is on my face.
May 26th, 2010 at 9:23 am
Just happened to pop by here via twitter…
I kinda stopped hanging out on the boards 2years ago cause I went back to work….It was fun though, but too time consuming to keep up with. I think only a few will remember me though, but, it was fun. And yes, one day Neil will be mine….just gotta get rid of that AFP chick. ;>
May 26th, 2010 at 9:45 am
What a a world! What a World!! (said the Wicked Witch as she melted)
For all looking for a message board to post about Joe, may I recommend thedarktower dot com. We are a Stephen King based message board but have threads about Joe’s novels and comics…come on over and set a spell!
To Joe and Shane…it was a good ride! Thanks for the memories! I didn’t post often, but read much!
Gabriel..I will have to head on over to IDW and find you there.
Mark, congrats on the impending addition!
May 26th, 2010 at 9:49 am
Jodi! Glad to see you’re still kickin’! (My condolences on Neil’s engagement.)
And g…love what you posted. One of my daughters has that tattooed on her back.
Thanks Joe for giving us till the end of the month. I’m gonna try to hit 5000 posts before you lock the doors. Of course that does make more for you to clean up, but I have to try!
May 26th, 2010 at 10:01 am
Of course I remember you, Jodi!
May 26th, 2010 at 11:31 am
Message Board or not, this is still one of only 2 sites that refuses to allow the cyber abuse that pervades You Tube, Facebook and sometimes Twitter.
It proves, to me anyway, that it doesn’t have to be that way. So why they keep allowing it is beyond me.
I came here to get away from it on FB, but I was actually harassed and threatened by a You Tube neanderthal. He had the cave man, drag women by their hair mentality, but telling YT about him yielded no response.
Why does the cloak of anonymity provided by the Internet seem to drop the average maturity level to about age 7? My daughter acted better when she was that age.
They can stop the abuse if they want to, so I don’t see why they don’t.
John Cusack’s Twitter and Facebook pages are the other exception. He won’t let anyone, not even another fan, abuse his fans.
He also said if you bite him he bites back. I won’t get into what went through my mind after he said that but I’m glad he said it, b/c it offers further proof that you can stop Internet abuse if you really want to.
Whenever I get tired of being threatened by faceless people, some of whom have become absolutely rabid w/ me, I visit this site.
I hope it’s ok w/ you. I see it as another benefit, one I’ll get w/ or w/out the Message Board.
May 26th, 2010 at 2:06 pm
I got a burning feeling deep inside of me, but I’m gonna set it free. Is that what you thought Joe. I think you did. Like most of the others, loved to peek in every whip stitch but never talked much. Been following you on twitter since about the 4000′s your a riot. CosmicStardust (like to think I’m part of your hivemind, buzz buzz) don’t fret about anything. Thanks
May 26th, 2010 at 2:22 pm
Yay! The blog is staying
I was wondering about that since I think it has to be a good tool for marketing any new things coming up. Good, great, grand!
And….we can still get in there this week? I’ll have to check and see so I can get info on where you all are headed.
Thanks, Nerak — May just go on over to the DT board.
May 26th, 2010 at 5:39 pm
Sorry to hear that but totally understand.
If there is one site I visit frequently it is this one.
Updates on L&K, Your books and it gives me a good view of what is going on, evenif there is only one new thing a month. I don’t care.
It is nice for a fan to see what their writter is up to or what is happening. I think we all respect your decission. Maybe one day it’ll be back.
Thanks for everything and see you next time on the road.
cheers
May 26th, 2010 at 6:53 pm
I know Betsy Boo lived by that message board! Naw, I completely understand your reasoning, but am glad I checked it out for the sole purpose to see what others thought of “My Father’s Mask”.
Ya’ know, there’s this author that I’ve recently come to love named Bentley Little. I have only read two of his books, but am always trying to find information on the guy… come to find out he doesn’t believe in the technological age! He refuses to have his own Facebook, Myspace, Twitter, and even website!
In a way, it’s kinda cool to keep an author mysterious… okay maybe a bit creepy like the “Best New Horror” author, but that’s just fiction, right?
May 26th, 2010 at 8:55 pm
Vicky,
I had trouble getting signed into the M.B. too.
Last time I tried ( with my ailin’ eyeballs) I got the little
acid-head style font box , y’know “just decode the swimming letters”. LOL.
I think Blogging is better ..Keepin it simple keeps it more enjoyable.
May 26th, 2010 at 10:00 pm
Yes Buzzy…you’re right. I love (loved?) Joe’s MB. Great folks…great conversation. And alot of times I found out stuff I didn’t know about. I’m already feeling the hole that it will leave in my life. Is that terribly sad? Am I pathetic?
Regarding “My Father’s Mask”, I think we could talk about that one forever. My theory is that it might have originated as a nightmare. I hope someday Joe will talk about it.
May 26th, 2010 at 10:39 pm
Not pathetic. Its hard to find a place on the internet where you can have a decent conversation.
May 27th, 2010 at 1:57 am
‘My Father’s Mask’ is one of two stories that made me feel I wasn’t intelligent enough to grasp the meaning, b/c I couldn’t figure out why anything was happening or where the story was going.
When that happens, I just figure it’s something about me that can’t decipher the meaning. But the whole time I read that story I was on call; in other words, distracted by the constant listening for the scanner to report an emergency that I’d have to respond to. I couldn’t be completely into my reading.
I stopped reading when I’m on call, unless I’ve already read the book. That way, I don’t have to worry about tearing myself away from the plot. But I don’t understand a lot of stories I read (or movies I watch), especially when they’re subtle. I need things to be intense and sudden. That’s why I write my own stories that way. It’s what I’ve become accustomed to my whole adult life. The sudden change from normal to emergency is what I relate to best.
Being able to switch over so fast, and treat an emergency, has made people look at me funny. But they’ll be glad I can do so if they ever have an emergency themselves.
May 27th, 2010 at 7:07 am
There are many other places everyone can blog about their Locke & Key love too. One of my favorite threads, I continue to visit and support is the Locke & Key Appreciation Thread in the Modern Age section at cgccomics. It’s mainly for comics(not only graded) and I find inventive ways to discuss the various variants, print runs, hard to find issues, Joe’s other comics(Spidey Unlimited #8, Grave Tales #6 & Criminal #4) and because he previewed Horns in L & K: COS #3 it was open door to discuss that one too. A lot of fans, thought it was like Hellboy and The Crow. Just yesterday we were talking about how Dakota Fanning would be an awesome Kinsey if a movie is to be ever produced. Joe Hill love is all over the internet, you just have to look.
May 27th, 2010 at 10:14 am
Hi, Betsy Boo: I agree with Mark. [I too for the last year or so have had major trouble signing in to the MB.]
May 27th, 2010 at 4:59 pm
Barry…I have missed you.
May 28th, 2010 at 1:06 pm
Joe Hill,
You rock. That is all.
May 29th, 2010 at 7:28 pm
Joe, I understand completely. There are only so many hours in the day!
Greg
May 29th, 2010 at 8:42 pm
Vicky, Maybe its a good thing that “My Fathers Mask” flew over..
I thought that was one dark tale if ever! Brrr!!
Buzzy, I took M.F.M. as one child’s scattered memory of something
very cold that went on and he didn’t understand.. that Mom played a charade that was paid for by Dad with a “fatal Harvest”.
Did you see it that way too?
May 29th, 2010 at 11:00 pm
Hahahah oh dear– what have I done? Joe: I apologize if I’ve hijacked your blog!
Grasshopper,
The first few times reading it around I felt completely lost (like Vicki) and I know, I personally, felt I was not educated enough to understand it. Oddly enough when a friend was equally as confused and asked for my input I told her that it made me think that the mother was a Pagan/witch sorta person and that the kid’s father was mortal and knew his destiny.
I’ve always been intrigued when the day will come when Hill and I meet one another and I’ll ask him the true meaning of the story.
… and just to spite me, he’ll not say a word.
May 30th, 2010 at 1:45 pm
Bentley Little is one of the authors I kept suggesting in my list of ‘authors worth reading’ and ‘books I’ve read.’
I’ve read almost everything he’s written but I knew of him before the whole nation did. He was born in Arizona, and all of his scenes are from the Southwest states. Which I relate to best, b/c I’ve lived in the Southwest.
I like his Arizona settings better than the California ones.’
Bronson Pinchot doesn’t believe in modern technology either-apparently so. And he’s around the same age as Bentley Little.
Based on how I’ve seen people talk to John Cusack, I don’t blame the other two if they don’t want to talk directly to the public.
I swear IDK where some people get their damn nerve. One comment was so bad, I decided to respond to it. I said I hope he never thinks I’m going to feel that way about him. And I called them ingrates but not directly.
B/c frankly I was starting to worry I’d be judged according to their behavior. (More than one acts like that) They’re fans, I’m a fan. So I wanted him to know I’d never EVER act that way.
IDK if he saw the comment in question or my response; but now I know why he said ‘If you bite me, I bite back.’
May 30th, 2010 at 9:52 pm
Buzzy,
Good luckr getting the opportunity to meet Joe and find the answer to your question.
You could do like me and ask some really nutty question like:
“What blood type did his father heve”?
May 31st, 2010 at 4:57 pm
Joe-
You are wayyyy good to your fans, exceptional in fact, don’t sweat it. As long as you don’t fuck around and early retire on us, we cool
May 31st, 2010 at 6:51 pm
Amen!
May 31st, 2010 at 8:53 pm
Joe, thanks for answering my question, way back when
I’m headed over now to make my last post! VERY glad the blog is staying. I’d love to see another chalk off, and some of the Tuesday Daydreaming and things like that would be nice
June 1st, 2010 at 11:41 am
This will probably sound like a dumb question, but what’s the blog? Do you mean the blog on the MB or the one on the main channel?
I HAD to come over here- to get away from the groupie mentality. I just can’t believe some of the things people will say to certain celebrities.
June 3rd, 2010 at 9:13 pm
Joe, Shane and all of the message board crew — I wish you all the best and will always fondly remember the laughs.
Take care.
June 4th, 2010 at 7:00 pm
They was sum good times! I think it’s officially locked down now. Does anyone have a good suggestion of a cool place to hang out now? I don’t really wanna do facebook. I’m already a member of GoodReads but it’s just not like Joe’s place.

The only thing I like about Facebook is John Cusack’s page.
I’m addicted to all the games over there, b/c I have an unfortunate trait of becoming addicted to anything-except work, which I find odd.
But John Cusack hasn’t written on HIS page since March 31. If you think Joe takes long to post things, John takes even longer.
And when he did write in, he only said ‘Hi all.’ He must be a man of few words, or incredibly busy.

See what happens when you don’t come around for a while? You check out the BB and wonder why it’s a ghost town, only to wander over to the blog and see this!
Hehe. I totally get it. There really aren’t enough hours in the day.
I want to thank you for having such a cool board where I met a lot of really great peeps, learned about some great new authors I might not have otherwise, had the good fortune to win a little something, get some sigs, and basically bask in the glory of your skills as a writer, feeling as though I had an “inside” track on Joe stuff.
I plan to continue doing so on Twitter and will probably check out the forums at IDW as well. L&K continues to amaze. I look forward to more of your work….and I agree that another Chalk-Off would be AWESOME!
(You might want to set a torch to the board soon….the walls are dry and crumbly and I saw some tumbleweeds roll through. It felt creepily as though someone….or something…was watching me….)

Wow my timing stinks, I’ve been a long time contributor to my other favourite author’s boards (FPW). So I thought I’d jump in here and get to know a few people
Ah well, I’ll hang around the blog to see what is happening. I only found out about the UK visit when you were on a plane back to the US!
As I say my timing stinks!

I’m trying to make or break it in writing, and even though the social networking sites are infinitely handy, I find they suck too much of my time. I can’t say I blame you for leaving.
Love your writing.
