Did I Mention

Out in trade paperback this week. I’ll probably start posting my “three things” about the stories again in the near future. Can’t remember where I left off.

Yeah, I have been posting a lot lately…

Yay!! I LOVED the “three things” posts! I think some of them were re-captured after the site crash. I’ll look it up.

And I sincerely hope you’re not apologizing for posting a lot…you know we love to hear from you. Keeps our fix on while we’re waiting for the next Joe Hill story! I’m so excited about “Gunpowder” I don’t know how I’ll be able to wait!

What’s this about three things? A little insight to the stories?

As for it being out in paperback….I don’t know what to do!!! See, I have the one signed (so nice of you) to my daughter, then I have the copy for me to read,re-read, read in the future…you know, one to abuse…now, if I get paperback…well, doesn’t that make me one of the crazies who has multiple copies of Catcher in the Rye (which I do have multiple copies of….so I guess I am already in that group) ACK! What to do, what to do? I think I’ll pass on the paperback and get my hands on the hardcover L&K to round out my craziness. ;0)

Yeah…for a while Joe was posting 3 things about each story on his blog. It was really cool…had some background on the genesis of the stories and interesting facts. I looked under the 20thCG topic and only found 2…one for “Locusts” and “Pop Art”. I’m not sure where the rest of them went…we lost some due to the crash. I know he had one on “Abraham’s Boys” and “The Black Phone”…there may be more that I’m not remembering. Anyway, perhaps a search on the net will turn up more? At any rate, with the release of the paperback I’d be willing to bet a lot more newbies will be showing up and they would enjoy “3 things” as much as we oldies!

    Thanks BB..

Sweet! I miss the three things. I really was looking forward to the one for “My Father’s Mask,” which was the one story that gave me a headache whenever I tried to understand what the hell you were talking about. Sorry, but I suffer from severe surrealism allergies.

  6. loganraider Says:

Yeah, we had some good talks about My Father’s Mask and I was really looking forward to hearing more about it. I felt I added some insights and the other people added some things I hadn’t gotten to help us get a better picture of the story. It reminded me a lot of “Bitter Grounds” by Gaiman. I don’t get a lot of it, but I enjoyed it immensely.

  7. Melissa Says:

I can’t wait for the “three things”! I’ll get to reread all the stories AGAIN. And I must invest in some paperbacks – I’ve loaned out my hard cover so many times, I practically need to keep a library book thing in there to stamp the return date so I know it comes back to me – or something…lol. A few paperbacks would make some fabulous gifts!!!!

Like you posting a lot is a bad thing! ha ha

I have to tell you that my mother and I live in Denver, Colorado and have been searching for 20th Century Ghosts, unfortunately without much success, ugh. We started the search after we fortuitously stumbled upon Heart-Shaped Box (which by the way, we are both crazy about). Of course now that it’s coming out in paperback I have the distinct feeling that I will want it in hard cover. Hmm well thanks also for mentioning where we can get our greedy little hands on an autographed copy as that may be the preferred route at this time. Anyway, keep writing because I keep re-reading Heart-Shaped Box and frankly although it is definitely one of my favorite morsels to savor I need some new material to devour.
    Your expectant reader,
    Brooke

I loved Heart Shaped Box and recommended it to everyone I know. I am rushing off to the bookstore for 20th Century Ghosts right now. I have a 5 hour plane trip coming up on Monday and this will be the perfect companion. You are the fresh voice in a genre that was starting to become just a little stagnant for me.

    Joe et al,

I just stumbled upon this site today, as I have just begun reading ’20th Century Ghosts’ which came to me quite by accident through a mail order book club of unknown origin. If anyone would like I can find out and let you know who is listing this book as available.

All I can say is ‘AWESOME’ in a slick, neat, wide eyed stare into my book at night snuggled under my covers with each character and story better than the last.

Thanks Joe Hill, you have rescued the reader interested in true ghostie stories from the commercial realm of Derryville. No offense you there, still love you, but your stories have become predictable and that is no fun at-tall.

Hi! this is my first time commenting and i really like reading your blogs:)), i like your stories because just like Eddie Caroll im tired reading stories about vampires having sex and all that crap, I also like your stories because most people never come up with what you write like in “Best new horror” which has a really nice twist in it:)) i also like your stories because its not solely based on horror, some of them are just plain sweet:D(20th century ghosts). Me and my friend love talking about your books especially heart shaped box which is one of the best novels I’ve ever read:D there are two things that I’ve been wondering lately though….Dont you think that Georgia in heart shaped box (based on your description on her) looks a bit like katy perry on her “ur so gay” music video, and im also wondering why there isnt The Black Phone: The missing chapter” on my book(my 20th century ghosts is the same as the picture on top) anyway…..Hope you make more awesome stories :D and Happe new year:D

  13. California_Girl Says:

    Yeah, what Orwen said…

Joe, am reading 20TH CENTURY GHOSTS

  14. California_Girl Says:

Sorry about that…must have hit the wrong key…

Anyway, am reading 20th Century Ghosts…”Best New Horror” really creeped me out. Not sure if “Buttonboy” within the story or the story itself was creepier. Found myself commenting “Oh, no” out loud when Carroll realized the car keys were in his pocket! Looking forward to alot more pleasantly disturbing reading!

  15. Martha Nunes Says:

    Hi there ^_^

I bought ’20th Century Ghosts’ here in Brazil and just finished reading Abraham’s boys… Its great!.

I think “Best New Horror” its beautiful, kind of sweet and “Pop Art” is really delicate too.

I came to your book just because the name caught my attention and I had no idea who your father was :P The book says nothing about this fact and I admire you for being know as Joe Hill and not your father’s son.

Funny that I started reading “IT” at the same time I started your book :P And the name of the second king’s child caught my attention… Thats how I discovered.

Ill be checking your works. Really liked your stories so far!!! ^_^
    Huggs,
    Martha.
