Short Sharp Shocks
On March 28th, The Shocklines Film Series is running a program of shorts at the 92Y Tribeca in NYC, and both Dorothy Street’s adaptation of “Abraham’s Boys,” and Amanda Boyle’s take on “Pop Art,” will be playing there… along with 5 other concise freak shows. This is probably the only place you can see 1/7th of 20th Century Ghosts in film form all in one night.
I wish I was going to be there – it’d be fun to watch “Art” & “Abe” in front of an audience, but I’d also like to see the adaptation of Pete Crowther’s story “Eater,” and this one “Treevenge” about Christmas Trees deciding they’re mad as hell and they’re not going to take it any more. If anyone gets a chance to check it out, report back in the comments thread, let me know how it went.
All information and a full line-up of what’s showing here.

That would be fun – it’s on my list of things to do one day, going to that….the long list, not the short one…lol

Joe:
just wanted to let you know that I stumbled on your site and due to what I found here, I will be picking up a copy of Heart Shaped Box!

I know I shouldn’t be greedy since I’m going to get a chance to see “Pop Art” at the River Run Film Festival, but I sure would like to see “Abraham’s Boys”. I still get creeped out thinking about that story and I’d love to see it on film. Actually, I’d like to see all of Joe’s stories on film…everyone of them would be great! I can’t be the only one who loves the way Joe writes…his stories are so vivid that when I read them it’s like having a little movie of them playing in my head.

Wish I could see those shorts. The trek from Seattle to New York just to catch a short film is, unfortunately not in my budget.
Where else will these shorts play? Anywhere on the West Coast?
(C’mon, Seattle… )

Hey Ryan…do you have an annual film festival there? If you do, maybe you could send a link to Ms. Boyles and she would enter “Pop Art”. I know she has a website. It couldn’t hurt, right?

Is that the kid from Son of Rambow!? That kid is awesome! Can’t wait to see these two!

Do you know where else the films for 20th Century Ghosts will be playing? Or will they be released some other way? I would love to see them.

Sometimes the only hope you have of seeing a short film is if it gets nominated for an Oscar… I love that iTunes releases all the nominated shorts for purchase. Seems like there would be a market for that on iTunes or Amazon, esp. for adaptations of Joe’s stuff that would have built-in fans…
