PS – I Luuuv You
Pete Crowther, the publisher/editor/impresario behind PS Publishing, has offered up ten rare, remarkable limited editions for prizes in the Love-Your-Indie Contest. That brings the prize total to 22 books in all… and no, I’m afraid we’re still not completely done yet.
What’s PS putting on the table? Here are the latest sacrifices:
• The two-book slipcased edition of DANDELION WINE by Ray Bradbury, signed by both Bradbury, and my paw, who wrote the introduction.
• A special BSFA sampler edition of POSTSCRIPTS magazine, containing 10 stories pulled from the first 17 issues and not available outside of the special members-only mailing of the British Science Fiction Association.
• A three-book Ray Bradbury gift set, featuring THE HALLOWEEN TREE, THE OCTOBER COUNTRY, and SOMETHING WICKED THIS WAY COMES.
• Pete Crowther’s own THE LAND AT THE END OF THE WORKING DAY, signed by Crowther, and the four introducers: Elizabeth Hand, Lucius Shepard, Ian MacDonald, and yours truly.
• slipcased edition of POSTSCRIPTS #15, signed by all except two contributors, and featuring a 16-page color artwork section by TALES FROM THE CRYPT legend Al Feldstein.
• a slipcased multiple-signature edition of Mark Morris’s anthology of horror film essays, CINEMA MACABRE.
• slipcased and signed copy of Arthur C. Clarke’s TALES FROM THE WHITE HART.
• The PS edition of Stephen King’s THE COLORADO KID (unsigned)
• A set of all four of Peter Crowther’s essential DAW SF anthologies: MARS PROBES, CONSTELLATIONS, FORBIDDEN PLANETS, and WE THINK, THEREFORE WE ARE, signed by the editor. (meaningless trivia: Originally “Gunpowder” was intended to be a 20 page short story for FORBIDDEN PLANETS. Then it got bigger)
• signed & slipcased copy of THE SONG OF TIME by Ian MacLeod, shortlisted for this year’s Arthur C. Clarke Award.
Enormous thanks to Pete for the support and all the awesome gifts. Did you know that buying from a small press’s online store is just as valid an entry in the contest as buying from any other indie bookstore? True!
Guys, thanks again for all the enthusiasm and interest and for making an investment in your local bookshop. Beats the hell out of investing in Bear Stearns.

Powell’s Books has a deal for free shipping on any size order for new accounts. I used it when I ordered my book tonight! And, they are a great indie bookstore.

Does entries that come with a severed pinky get counted twice?
March 17th, 2009 at 6:02 pm
Do used books and used bookstores count?

I supposed I’m exempt from the contest if I WORK in an independent bookstore.
That’s some great swag!!!

Hey Lanora—I should think that if you purchase something and follow the rules that Joe posted you would be able to enter. I don’t know why not…it’s not like you really have an edge over the rest of us. Except that you have a cool job!
March 18th, 2009 at 7:39 am
Lanora, I’d agree with Betsy…
although I’m sure Joe would
have the final say.
Regardles, it wouldn’t hurt
to send him a receipt.

Lanora – sure you can enter.

Hey Sari…you know I was thinking about what you posted and then I got to thinking that there are a bunch of writers in the family who might put a signed copy of something up for the contest. I’d love to have a signed copy of any one of their books…SK, TK, OK, KB…etc…
I heard somewhere that even NK was writing a book a while back. How about it guys?

Hi Joe,
I think what you’re doing is wonderful. I would like to humbly offer something (maybe a signed ARC of WFE?) for your contest. The indies–well, what can I say? I think their hand-selling of WFE literally made my career.
Let me know if I can provide anything that would add to the contest. Foreign editions, an ARC (only got one to spare, my dogs ate the rest when I was off on a trip), etc.

Oh Ms. Gruen!! I do hope Joe accepts your kind and mega-generous offer! I LOVED WFE and I can’t wait until your next book comes out!
This contest just keeps getting better and better!

I came to this a bit late, ah well.
Joe, wouldn’t it have been relatively simple for you to get The Colorado Kid book signed?
Just a thought….
